The Korea International Art Association (KIAA) is holding a Korean-Uzbek modern art exhibition in the capital city of the two nations -Tashkent and Seoul. For the past 11 years, KIAA has had annual joint exhibitions with countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Canada, and the Philippines to introduce Korean art to the world and to promote cultural exchange between Korea and other nations. This year, KIAA has organized a joint exhibition with Uzbekistan. In the ancient times, Uzbekistan was a key link on the Silk Road connecting China with Western Europe. The country has a long history with a rich cultural heritage and is also referred to as the 'Pearl of Central Asia'. In the exhibition held at Uzbekistan, 20 Uzbek paintings in addition to 180 Korean paintings including the works of KIAA advisor Park Gwang-jin has been exhibited in the Tashkent National Museum from July 27 to August 3. The Seoul exhibition will take place at the Gwanghwamun Gallery of the Sejong Center for Performing Arts from August 4 to August 10. This year's joint exhibition with Uzbekistan is expected to strengthen cultural and friendly relations between South Korea and Uzbekistan, and familiarize Koreans with Uzbek paintings.
