TIMF Season 2004

Tongyeong International Music Festival (TIMF), which has been held in every March since the year of 2002 with the duration of ten days, is going to be carried out on a seasonal basis from this year, 2004.

It started as “Tongyeong Contemporary Music Festival” in the year of 2000. Then, with the establishment of Tongyeong International Music Festival Foundation in 2002, it made a significant leap to an international musical event. Going beyond the 10 days of temporary work of organizing and budget planning, TIMF will be presented under a brand name “Tongyeong” or “TIMF” which also embraces contemporary music. TIMF will organize an annual music festival, music concerts, and an international music competition and meet the public and musicians throughout the world on a seasonal basis. As being planned to be a managerial sponsor of a new music center which will be built up in the near future, it will surely be growing up as a renewed “TIMF”.

1. Meanings of being a seasonal event

As been stated previously, TIMF will no more be a single 10 days event being held only once a year but will stand as an official organization carrying on various business and events corresponding to the goals of TIMF.

2. Brand name: TIMF
With a brand name “TIMF”, the TIMF Foundation will

1) develop the city of Tongyeong as a world famous city of music and nostalgia,
2) inspire vitality to Korea’s stagnant concert market with more opportunities for international artists and management companies as well. TIMF will flourish as an Asia’s representative of classical concerts and open up a new international market for young and capable international musicians discovered through TIMF.

Within this interconnection, TIMF Season 2004 can be understood as being going through a transitional period but ultimately heading towards its goals as it grows.

3. TIMF’s vision

TIMF is trying to develop a new model and contents for music concerts and festivals inspired by some advanced examples such as the Salzburg Festival in Austria and the Luzern Festival in Swiss. And the new model and contents will be applied straight to TIMF’s annual operating plan for Tongyeong Music Center which is to be built on a site of superb natural beauty in the near future.
