Cheongnamdae was built by the order of Jeon Du-Hwan, the former president, in 1980 and it took 3 years. Cheongnamdae served as a villa for presidents of Korea for 20 years after it was built.
To ensure security, it was not even on the map. It was kept as a perfect secret until April 22nd, 2003 when the government decided to open it to the public.
1) Geopolitical location of Cheongnamdae
Cheongnamdae is located in Muneui-myeon Cheongwon-gun Chungcheongbuk-do.
It is surrounded by mountain peaks such as Oksaebong, Wolchulbong, Jakdusan Mountain, and Sowibong. You cannot find it since it is hidden. A lake called Daecheongho surrounds regions nearby Cheongnamdae. This was recommended by Feng-Shui scholars as the best place.
2) Visiting Cheongnamdae
(1) Reservation: You can visit Cheongnamdae only when you make a
reservation on the website of the Chungcheongbukdo Province
since April 10, 2003. The number of visitors is limited to
1,000 a day.
