Naval Base Festival(alias Cherry blossom festival) takes place in the beginning of April, for 10 days, with the full bloom of cherry blossom.
The origin of the festival goes back to April 13, 1952 when Jinhae city constructed the first statue of Admiral Yi, Sunshin in Korea at the Bokwon traffic circle and held memorial service. Since 1963, the festival has been held annually to remember the patriotic spirit of Admiral Yi and promoted the local festivities. Today, it became well known festival where people around the country come to Jinhae City to enjoy various cultural events, traditional markets and cherry blossom.
With the long history and tradition, the festival gain popularity in Korea every year. During the festival, as many as 1 million people visit Jinhae City to see Naval Port Festival.
In early April, Jinhae has a naval port festival for 10 days. It originated from the memorial service of very famous admiral Yi Soon Shin and his statue on 13th of April, 1952.
