Traditional shamanistic ritual performance in The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts
'The Hwanghaedo Spring shamanistic ritual to be performed for 3 days'
The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts (NCKTPA) presents outdoor performances by old shamans of the Incheon area for 3 days from May 15th to 17th. The special performance was organized by the NCKTPA in an attempt to discover the original form of traditional Korean shamanistic ritual. A total of 9 shamans including a male shaman will offer performances such as dancing on sharp blades, and 33 shamanistic rituals including rare performances such as the Hosalryanggut(a ritual comforting the souls of those who fell prey to tigers). Spectators may take part in the performances by dancing and singing and may freely videotape and record the performances. In addition, English interpretations of the performances will be provided by professor Maria Seo of the Washington State University.
