The National Theater of Korea (NTOK) is holding the 'Bumpae Festival' from July 17 to 21. The 'Bumpae' is a Buddhist chant performed at rituals, and is one of the important intangible cultural heritages of Korea. In addition, the Bumpae will be performed at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival.

This festival is meaningful as it provides a rare chance to enjoy live Bumpae performances. The festival features Buddhist chants and dances of different regions in Korea, and aims to introduce various styles of Bumpae and Jakbeop (Buddhist dancing) to the public.
During the five-day festival, skilled monks and organizations for the preservation of Buddhist rituals will perform different kinds of Bumpae and Jakbeop every day for an hour and a half.

The 'Bumpae festival' is the first festival of the 'In search for the origin of Korean culture' series planned by the NTOK, which will present the 'Gut (traditional shamanic ritual) festival' next year.
