This is a charity event. All proceeds will be donated to the Yonsei Cancer Center.
This annual event is organized worldwide in memory of Terry Fox, a hero to all Canadians, who passed away on June 28, 1981 at age 22. Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When he was only 18 years old, he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated six inches above the knee in 1977. While in the hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry ran 5,000 km across Canada, averaging 42 km per day
Often called the "Marathon of Hope," the run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families, and groups to raise money in Terry's name. The run now attracts over 1.5 million
participants worldwide and is the largest single-day cancer research fundraiser in the world. In the 2003 run in Korea, around 2,500 participants raised almost 54 million KRW ($60,000 CDN) for cancer research in Korea.
