With an aim to succeed and further develop Taekgyeon, Korea’s ancient martial art designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Asset No. 76, the Chungju World Martial Art Festival was conceived in 1998 when the martial arts contest, to which domestic martial arts groups were invited, was held. In 2000, the name was changed to Chungju World Martial Arts Festival. Since then, the festival has staged a variety of martial arts performances from around the world, which were a popular hit among tourists. With the participation of more than 30 international martial arts groups, the festival will
stage a demonstration on the origin of martial art, as well as other various martial arts demonstrations. It also features arms exhibitions, serving as an on-site learning place for students.
