[Screening of Korean Film Yeok Dosan with English Subtitles]
The Korean film Yeok Dosan, which is scheduled to be released on December 15, will be screened with English subtitles at Cine Core from December 15 through 21. The film is about the life of Korean born wrestler Yeok Dosan (known in Japan as Rikidozan). Born in Korea as Kim Shin-rak, Yeok Dosan goes to Japan in 1940 to succeed as a sumo wrestler. He becomes Japan's third ranking sumo wrestler, but is frustrated by the fact that only the Japanese can be qualified to become a Yokozuna, the highest rank in sumo wrestling. Eventually, Yeok Dosan gives up sumo, and goes to the U.S to learn Pro Wrestling. He returns to Japan two years later and introduces Pro Wrestling to Japan. The Japanese, who were suffering from post-war frustration, find new hope when they see Yeok Dosan defeat American wrestlers one by one. Yeok Dosan becomes Japan's national hero, but just when he thought he had it all, things start falling apart.
