 Tong-do sa |
|
 Tong-do sa is considered the first of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea. The Three Jewels are: the Buddha, Dharma and Sangga, with Tong-do sa representing the Buddha.Tong-do sat was built during the reign of Queen Sondeok by Venerable Chajang, who brought three relics of Sakyamuni from China. It is these relics that give the temple its status as the Buddha Jewel of Korean temples.In place of a Buddha statue in the main hall is a bell-shaped stupa, said to contain three relics of Sakyamuni.Tong-do sa has about thirty thousand Buddhist cultural assets. |
